Story: Ram Naam

There lived a very famous sage in a kingdom who had a large following. The king felt that he too should seek Deeksha (to be initiated on the path of self-realization) from the sage and therefore he visited the ashram. The sage asked the king to first serve the ashram and that said that after the 'seva' he would give Deeksha/ or guide the king towards self-realization. Thus, the king served for a few years and then on one fine day the sage called for the king and said that the king was now ready to be initiated. The sage asked the king to chant the name of lord Rama and said that by doing so he would progress on this path. On hearing this the king felt totally let down. He didn’t expect the initiation-mantra to be such a common mantra.  He felt that his wait and service had been a waste. Disappointed and disheartened he stopped to visit the ashram.

Suddenly one day the sage barged into the king's palace and directly went to the assembly where the king was seated on his throne surrounded by all his ministers and soldiers. As soon as the sage entered the hall, he ordered the soldiers to imprison the king. Everybody in the assembly was taken-aback and gaped at the king. Seeing no soldier step forward, the sage repeated his order, but still there was no action. On seeing this the king got very angry and ordered the soldiers to arrest the sage. The soldiers promptly stepped forward to obey the king’s orders. The sage then said, “Dear King, don’t you see now? I ordered the soldiers the same thing as you did but there was absolutely no response to my words whereas there was immediate action to your order. So it is not about the words it is about who gives the order! In this case these are your soldiers and therefore they will listen to you. Similarly, there is a big difference between doing something on your own accord and doing it when asked by a guru.

The king realized his mistake and sought forgiveness from his Guru.

Sadna was very hesitant to do so but after a lot of debate in his mind agreed to it. He chose a goat, sharpened his knife and when he was about to wield it the goat spoke to him! .....
